Export to draw.io
Download the current diagram as an editable draw.io file for architecture docs, audits, design reviews or handovers. The draw.io button sits in the Visualizer toolbar and works in both Snapshot and Compare mode.
Nothing leaves your browser
The file is built in your browser and saved to your machine. Nothing is uploaded to StratoLens, draw.io or anywhere else.
Exporting a diagram
- Arrange the diagram the way you want: pick the scan, set filters and drag nodes into place. In Compare mode, also set Filter changes and Show Unchanged.
- Click draw.io. The file downloads to your machine.
- Open it in draw.io. In the web app (
app.diagrams.net), use File > Open from > Device. Or open it in the draw.io desktop app.
Arrange before you export
The file keeps your positions, so drag clusters into the arrangement you want first. For a change-review diagram, export from Compare mode with Show Unchanged off.
The file is named stratolens-network-<scan date>.drawio, or stratolens-network-compare-<older date>-to-<newer date>.drawiofrom Compare. The diagram page inside is titled "Network topology <date>" or "Network changes <older> to <newer>".
What carries over
- Included
- Every visible node at its current position (including nodes you dragged), connections with their colors and dash styles, orphan group frames and labels, and official Azure icons. In Compare mode, also the change rings, the removed-dash style and dimming.
- Not included
- Route trace highlighting, the current selection and hover, and count badges. Attachment counts move to each shape's tooltip instead.
- Colors
- Follow the app theme at the time you click. Exporting from dark mode gives lighter line colors on draw.io's white page, so switch to light mode first if you plan to print.
Inside the file
- Resources
- Each is a grouped ring plus icon, labelled with the full name. Long names wrap rather than truncate. Hover a shape for a tooltip with its name, type and attachment counts.
- Shape data
- Resource ID, type, subscription, resource group and location are stored on each shape. Select it and use Edit Data (
Ctrl+M) in draw.io to see them. - Icons
- From draw.io's built-in Azure library, so the file stays small and opens offline in the desktop app. Health probes have no draw.io icon and export as a plain circle.
- Orphan frames
- Plain shapes, not containers. Moving a frame in draw.io doesn't move its members.
Troubleshooting
The draw.io button is grayed out
Answer
The canvas is still loading, shows an error, or has no visible resources. Check your filters, and in Compare mode, Show Unchanged and Filter changes.
An error appeared under the toolbar after clicking draw.io
Answer
If it says a resource "has no position yet", wait for the diagram to finish drawing and click again. Any other message is shown as is; report it to support.
Icons are missing when I open the file
Answer
Open it in app.diagrams.net or the draw.io desktop app, which include the Azure icon library. Other tools that read .drawio files may not.
Lines look faint
Answer
You exported in dark mode, or from Compare mode, where unchanged items are dimmed.
